“We had the best experience working with Evan and the New Perspective Painting company. Communication was so easy and responsive. Was able to text pictures of the space to get a virtual quote. Easy payment method and very quick turn around. From the time I contacted them it was done in a week. They lime washed our primary bedroom including the ceiling and we could not love it more. It looks amazing, they were quick, efficient and so professional. I couldn’t not recommend them more.”

Have questions about kitchen cabinet painting? We have been painting kitchen cabinets for 10+ years and have perfected a system that combines state-of-the-art technology, premium paint, and expert techniques to totally transform your cabinets and make them like new
Professional kitchen cabinet painting requires a different skill set than painting other surfaces. It is important that your painting company is familiar with various spray techniques, and spraying attachments to ensure your cabinets are smooth and durable after completion.
We use Benjamin Moore Advance Interior Paint and Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Interior Paint for years of durability. .
Serene Neutrals
Neutral cabinet paint tones remain strong—think warm whites, greiges (gray + beige), soft taupes. These give a timeless, safe backdrop and are especially good if you might sell or want flexibility.
Why they’re popular:
They adapt well across styles (modern, transitional, classic).
They have high resale appeal.
They pair easily with hardware finishes and countertops.
Tip: If your space gets less natural light (such as a garage-entry kitchen or a basement level), pick a warmer white or greige rather than a cool white so it doesn’t feel gloomy.
Classic, Timeless Cabinet Painting Colors
Soft Neutral Cabinet Paint Color Examples
Natural Cream – Benjamin Moore.
Repose Gray – Sherwin-Williams.
Swiss Coffee – Benjamin Moore.
Accessible Beige – Sherwin‑Williams.
Dark & Dramatic Hues
Going bold is no longer just an accent island—full cabinetry paint colors in deep tones is very much in. Shades like charcoal, navy, forest/emerald green.
Why they’re popular: They bring depth, character, luxury. They also work as contrast pieces: e.g., lower cabinets dark + upper cabinets lighter.
Tip: These dark cabinet paint colors show wear/fingerprints more easily. Make sure you have good lighting and finishes (semi‐gloss or satin) to keep them practical.
Dark Cabinet Paint Color Examples:
Kendall Charcoal – HC-166 (deep, classic charcoal; nice with brass or gold hardware)
Wrought Iron – 2124-10 (soft black with a hint of warmth; less harsh than true black)
Black – 2132-10 (straight black; dramatic, modern)
Dragon’s Breath – CSP-590 (deep gray-brown with a tiny green read—great on slab fronts)
Urbane Bronze – SW 7048 (dark greige-bronze; huge with designers)
Iron Ore – SW 7069 (very deep charcoal; reads nearly black but softer than jet black)
Black Fox – SW 7020 (blackened warm greige; awesome on lowers with light uppers)
Nature-Inspired
& Earth Tones
Earth tone Cabinet Paint colors like Greens (forest, sage), muted blues, wood tones (white oak, walnut) and other earthy accents are trending.
Why they’re popular:
They tie in the biophilic/natural design trend (makes sense for your home improvement mindset).
They soften the space while giving color.
Wood tone cabinet paint colors bring warmth and texture (especially good if you have dogs, high-traffic, want durable).
Earth Tone Cabinet Paint Colors:
Evergreen Fog – Sherwin-Williams (SW 9130) Soft sage-green with gray; calm, natural, and extremely versatile.
2. Cavern Clay – Sherwin-Williams (SW 7701) Warm terracotta; earthy, cozy, and adds rich warmth.
3. Edgecomb Gray – Benjamin Moore (HC-173) Light warm greige; subtle, natural, and works with any style.
4. Backwoods – Benjamin Moore (469) Deep forest green; dramatic yet organic.
5. Smokey Taupe – Benjamin Moore (983) Warm stone-taupe; grounded, soft, and great for neutrals.
6. Wheat Bread – Behr (720C-3) Soft warm greige-beige; welcoming, versatile, and timeless.
Two-Tone & Accent Cabinets
You’ll see more variation: e.g., perimeter cabinets in a neutral, island in navy or green. Or lower cabinets dark, uppers light.
Why:
Adds visual interest without committing the entire kitchen to bold color.
Flexibility: you can update one section (like the island) later without redoing everything.
Tip: When doing two-tone cabinet paint color scheme, keep the hardware and finish consistent so the look still feels cohesive.
Two-Tone Cabinet Color Examples (6 Sets)
1. White Dove + Backwoods
Uppers: BM White Dove (OC-17) – soft, warm white
Lowers/Island: BM Backwoods (469) – deep forest green
2. Pure White + Iron Ore
Uppers: SW Pure White (SW 7005) – crisp but not stark
Lowers/Island: SW Iron Ore (SW 7069) – charcoal/soft black
3. Alabaster + Evergreen Fog

New Perspective Painting
Our 20 Step Cabinet Painting Process
1. Photograph & label the kitchen:
Record the layout and label doors, drawers, and hinges so everything returns to the correct spot.
2. Remove cabinet doors, drawers & hardware:
Take off all doors, drawer fronts, hinges, knobs, pulls, shelf pins.
3. Move pieces to a controlled work area:
Use a temp-controlled garage, basement, or spray booth to avoid dust and humidity issues.
4. Clean all Cabinet surfaces thoroughly (if needed):
Use TSP substitute, Krud Kutter Gloss-Off, or Simple Green to remove grease, oils, and contaminants.
5. Rinse & dry completely: Wipe with clean water and allow surfaces to dry so no soap residue interferes with adhesion.
6. Fill dents, scratches & hardware holes:
Use wood filler or Bondo; overfill slightly so sanding produces a flush surface.
7. Sand all cabinet surfaces (first sand):
Scuff-sand with 150–180 grit on frames and 220–240 grit on doors to remove shine and create mechanical adhesion.
8. Vacuum & tack cloth: Remove all dust using a shop vac + microfiber + tack cloth to ensure a clean bonding surface.
9. Mask & protect all non-painted areas
Tape off countertops, floors, appliances, interior boxes (unless spraying them), and walls using paper, plastic, and tape.
10. Set up a spray area or brush/roll station
Hang doors or lay them flat; ensure ventilation and low dust.
11. Apply bonding primer (coat 1)
Use oil-based bonding primer or waterborne bonding primer like BIN, Stix, or SW Extreme Bond.
12. Let primer cure & then sand (second sand)
After drying, sand lightly with 220–320 grit to smooth fibers and imperfections.
13. Inspect, fill, spot-prime if needed
Touch up any flaws, fill remaining pinholes, and re-prime small areas to prevent flashing.
14. Apply primer coat 2 (optional but ideal)
A second coat increases adhesion, hides old color, and improves durability.
15. Final sand after primer (third sand)
Use 320–400 grit for a perfectly smooth base before paint.
16. Apply the first coat of cabinet-grade enamel
Spray or roll with a fine-finish foam roller using paints like BM Advance, SW Emerald Urethane, or Milesi.
17. Allow proper dry/cure time
Follow the paint’s tech sheet—Advance needs longer cure time, Emerald cures faster.
18. Light sand between coats (fourth sand)
Use 400–600 grit, extremely gentle, just to remove microbumps.
19. Apply the second coat of enamel
Full, even, smooth coat for final finish. This is your topcoat.
20. Reassemble after curing
Reinstall doors, drawers, hinges, hardware. Adjust alignment, remove tape, clean up, and make final touch-ups.
Painted Cabinets
Spray Method vs Brush and Roll
Spraying (Highest Quality Finish)
Pros
Factory-smooth finish with no brush marks or texture
Even coverage on panels, edges, grooves, and shaker frames
Faster application once everything is prepped
More professional appearance, especially on modern or high-end kitchens
Cons
Requires more prep, masking, and controlled spray area
Needs equipment (sprayer, filters, ventilation)
More over-spray risk if not done properly
Best For:
High-end kitchens, resale upgrades, smooth modern cabinets, two-tone work, lacquer/enamel finishes.
Rolling & Brushing (Good but Not Factory-Smooth)
Pros
Less setup and masking required
Can be done in smaller homes without spray areas
Lower equipment cost
Good for quick repaints or budget projects
Cons
Visible texture from rollers and brush strokes—never perfectly smooth
Harder to get clean edges and consistent sheen
Slower on large kitchens
Less like a “factory finish,” especially on shaker-inset details
Best For:
Rental units, budget-friendly repaints, or older homes where a slight texture is acceptable.

“Evan and his crew were better than anyone I have ever worked with. The quality of his work and his communication was above all else. I paid him before his work was complete, and he showed up to complete what he said he was going to finish. That is rare in his industry! I would hire him again and again to do any project..”
